This organic waste is produced in large quantities when the milling of rice occurs. Rice husk or “Ipa” is a major by-product of rice milling. During rice production, roughly 0.28 kg of rice husk is produced with each kilogram of milled white rice. Rice husk contains high silica content, which makes it a good additive for certain mixtures.
A good amount of collected rice husk is often sold as an alternative fuel used by certain companies. In addition to this, it can be used as an energy source for minor functions like brick production, steam engines, and for generating heat for rice dryers. This by-product is useful for concrete, power, and steel industries.
